The IAP2 Wild Rose Chapter held its 2008 Signature Event in Canmore, Alberta from
May 20 - 22, 2008. Check out our list of presenters.
Despite cool rainy weather, the 2008 WR Signature Event, Moving Participation to New Heights: A Showcase of Trail Blazing Public Engagement Practices was the best one yet. Over 50 people from 6 countries attended and were treated to a stellar lineup of presentations that actively engaged participants. Anne Carroll, IAP2 Board member, delivered a very interesting pre-conference training, Designing as if Stakeholders Matter. Melissa Blake, Mayor of Fort McMurray painted a compelling picture of the role and importance of P2 in building a dynamic and people-centered city. The buzz was palpable as practitioners filled the halls and meeting rooms with intense conversations about advancing the practice of P2. It was a rare and delightful treat to have the participation of so many IAP2 Board Members as well. Their generous sharing of experiences truly helped us place our local practice in a global context. Self Connection Books of Calgary supported the event with their comprehensive array of books to entice us to explore further. The Signature Event closed with an international panel articulating their vision of P2 into the future followed by a roundtable discussion with conference participants.
All of this only happens with the passionate commitment of many hands. Lonny and I would like to extend a hearty thanks to the two dozen volunteers who worked on the Programs, Marketing and Sponsorship Committees. We would also like to thank our sponsors, SustainNet, Nexen, the Energy Resources Conservation Board, Gartner Lee Limited, Quicksilver Resources, APEGGA, and Tourism Canmore. And special thanks go out to Unni Soelberg-Claridge and Jacquie Schledt of EventPlan for making sure everything flowed seamlessly.
Those of you who missed this event can soon savour highlights through the video of the keynote address and closing panel and download presentations from the Members Only section of the Wild Rose website. Members will be receiving instructions before the summer on how to access the site. In the meantime, enjoy some pictures from the event at:
