Public Participation Alberta

Welcome to the Wild Rose Chapter of the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2).

IAP2 is an association that seeks to promote and improve the practice of public participation in relation to individuals, governments, institutions, and other entities that affect the public interest in nations throughout the world. IAP2 carries out its mission by organizing and conducting activities to:

  • Serve the learning needs of members through events, publications, networking and communication technology;
  • Advocate for effective public participation practices throughout the world;
  • Promote a results-oriented research agenda and use research to support educational and advocacy goals;
  • Provide technical assistance to improve public participation.

Wild Rose IAP2 members are part of a network of P2 practitioners throughout Alberta, across Canada and throughout the world. Ideas and methods are shared through local programs and events, the Rosebush newsletter, a local bi-annual conference, and a directory of all members.

Have you ever wondered:

  • What are the latest trends and techniques in public participation?
  • Do the latest trends and techniques really work?
  • Are there public participation practitioners who will share with me what they have learned from practical experience?
  • How can I get regular updates on public participation issues, news, and techniques?
  • Where can I get access to the literature and resources that will help me improve my practice?
  • Who speaks to decision makers in government and industry about the values and uses of public participation?

Your membership with Wild Rose will connect you to public participation expertise that will help you to find the answers you seek.

IAP2 Wild Rose Question Quilt

For many IAP2 members, the Wild Rose Chapter is synonymous with IAP2's Question QuiltQuestion Quilt. After the Washington '94 IAP2 Conference, individuals within the chapter created this physical representation of the "guiding questions" we must answer in designing effective public participation processes. At each conference in the 1990's, Wild Rose chapter delegates presented the Question Quilt and led a brainstorming discussion to add a question to the Quilt. Since that time, we have offered to bring along the Question Quilt to each international conference as we believe it has tremendous historical and aesthetic appeal.
